10 exciting things to do in Cornwall

Millendreath Beach Resort is the perfect base to explore Cornwall. Located near Looe, we are pretty close to almost everywhere in Cornwall, and if you don't feel like travelling, there is plenty to keep you occupied in the season around here.

When people book to stay they often ask what we would recommend to do while here. There's so much to see and do in Cornwall, and we have some local attractions to Millendreath too, including our beautiful Millendreath Beach with safe bathing waters and our onsite facilities, which include our popular Bistro on the Beach, our beautiful Beach Bar and the fantastic water sports team, Sea Explorers, and obviously the lovely little fishing town of Looe. But here's a condensed list, the 10 things I would recommend to try and see while you're visiting Cornwall...

Millendreath Beach - Millendreath Beach Resort

1.

Looe

Looe is only a 25 minute walk along the coast path from Millendreath and is a firm family favourite as it has so much to offer for such a busy little fishing village. From amazing pasties to great ice cream, stunning cakes and fantastic restaurants, it's definitely got culinary delights covered. We've got Italian, Chinese, Indian, Thai, Seafood, American... the list of eateries goes on, and there is definitely something for everyone, and all of them are worth a try! But food isn't all Looe has to offer! Each year it hosts it's own Music Festival! The festival brings thousands of music lovers together and is a brilliant weekend. We always offer accommodation for this at Millendreath as the access is so easy, but it's out of the hustle and bustle for when you want that beauty sleep.

Looe Beach is a lovely, large sandy beach with loads of rock pools for those who love exploring. The beach is not dog friendly, although there are plenty of dog friendly walks and beaches around here. In the summer there are rides, face painters and hair braiders along the front, as well as water sport hire. You can take a range of boat rides out from the quay, and even visit Looe Island when it is permitted. On the bridge is a big arcade, perfect for spending those 2p coins! There is a large play park by the Millpool car park, and some pretty woodland walks too. Be careful not to disturb wild life and marine life if you take a walk by the river. There is a train from Looe which has a picturesque journey through the valley, and you can get to Plymouth with a change at Liskeard.

All in all, Looe has a little something for everyone, and is well worth a visit! For accommodation check out our Apartments page.

2.

Eden Project - discounted tickets available from our Guest Services Shop

The Eden Project is a famous attraction that brings something different to the table. It's perfect for kiddies or grown ups, and is accessible for all. You can spend hours wandering around the Biomes which are absolutely fascinating, and on a nice day meander through the outside gardens. There is an ice-skating rink (possibly seasonal) and an amazing food hall which serves all kinds of delicious delights. There's even a zip wire which descends across the whole site for the brave among us!

3.

Adrenalin Quarry

Not far from Millendreath Beach Resort is Adrenalin Quarry. As the name suggests, it's great for the active and adventurous, and has plenty of outdoor activities to keep you going all afternoon. You can jump off a cliff, throw yourself around the waterpark, or thrash your competitors at karting. It's also a lovely spot for a picnic!

4.

St Michael's Mount

If you haven't been to St Michael's Mount before, it's a must, and if you already have, why not go again? St Michael's Mount is absolutely stunning, and is well worth a day trip. The island itself is accessible by boat (small charge) or at low tide you can walk over. There are two eateries on the island, and pretty walks that go through the gardens and command beautiful views. The town of Marazion is quaint and offers lots of little shops, ice cream parlours and cafes, and Marazion Beach is a gorgeous sandy beach that looks over to the Mount. There's also a play park for little ones on the way back to the car park so you can tire them out before the journey back. The car park is cash only so make sure to take some change.

5.

Padstow

Padstow was always my favourite place to go with grandparents as a child, because there was a shop that sold ice creams almost as big as me (obviously a childhood exaggeration but they were huge!) It's a beautiful little fishing harbour with some fabulous bakeries, pubs and fish and chip shops, and some really quirky toy shops that the kids will love! If you walk round the harbour you will find the National Lobster Hatchery and Rick Steins Fish Bar and Fishmongers.

6.

Camel Trail

Linking directly to Padstow is my next recommendation, The Camel Trail. The 18 mile trail stretches from Padstow all the way to Wenfordbridge, and is mainly flat and accessible. The views from the Camel Trail over the Camel Estuary are stunning, and can be enjoyed by foot or bicycle. There are a couple of places to hire a bike if you don't already have your own, and these can be found in the link in the title of this paragraph. During summer there are a couple of cafes along the trail, and you pass through towns along some of the route so you can stop for refreshments if needed. This is also a bridleway so be mindful of horse riders.

7.

Fowey

Fowey is a pretty little fishing village that offers a great range of places to eat and drink and also has a good reputation for live music events. Fowey has a few lovely spots for Afternoon Tea, and a wonderful spa. There are guided walks offered here, and it's also on the South West Coast Path, so you can enjoy a ramble from here. If you fancy another adventure, from Fowey you can catch a ferry to explore Polruan, another little village on the other side of the harbour. The ferry runs everyday apart from Christmas Day, and also allows dogs.

8.

Lost Gardens of Heligan

Until only 30 years ago, no one knew of the wonders of Heligan. A small door discovered in some ruins led the estate to it's restoration, and today it is a beautifully maintained attraction steeped in history. Great for all ages, Heligan has beautiful gardens to explore, a bakery and kitchen, and some great events throughout the year. There's farm animals, a play park, and plenty for little ones to see and do. Take a look at their website link in the title of this paragraph.

9.

Minack Theatre

This one is slightly further but well worth the day trip. Cornwall's Minack Theatre is a creation by a lady named Rowena Cade. You might think the Minack Theatre has been here forever, but incredibly it's not even 100 years old! This stunning outdoor theatre is the perfect place to catch a play under the stars, blissfully romantic and definitely fun. They have all sorts of shows on throughout the year, and is a must see if you are a theatre buff. They also have the Minack Gardens, and plan to do Garden Tours soon. The site is not accessible for disabled people as it's built into a cliff side.

10.

Lands End

If you're visiting the Minack, you may as well take a trip to Lands End while you're down that way. The famous landmark attracts thousands of people each year, and when you get there and see its magnificent coast line and views out to sea, it won't be hard to see why. You can take a photo with the iconic sign, get some souvenirs from the shops, and grab a bite to eat or drink from the number of eateries. There is also a 4D cinema experience too!
