With Covid-19 around, most people are opting to holiday in the UK, and Cornwall is one of the UK's biggest tourist destinations. And if you're holidaying at home, why not take the pooch with you?
We offer dog friendly accommodation at Millendreath Beach Resort, with 5 dog friendly units with sea views and 65 acres of woodland to enjoy. Millendreath beach is dog friendly, with restricted times during the summer months (before 9am and after 6pm) but from October to March you can enjoy the beach with your dog at any time of day. All we ask is that you pick up after your four legged friend when they go to the toilet and keep your dogs safely under control at all times.
So, when holidaying in Cornwall with your dog, where can you go? Here's a list of 5 lovely dog friendly beaches you can enjoy whilst staying with us at Millendreath Beach Resort, obviously there are lots more but we'll save some for another day...
1. Millendreath Beach Resort, near Looe
Millendreath is dog friendly year round, with restricted times in the summer months when it's too hot for dogs anyway and the beach is busy with humans. We like to ensure that everyone can enjoy the beach safely, so we allow dogs on the beach before 9am and after 6pm from April to September, but not during the day. Between October and March, dogs can go on the beach any time, we just ask that you always pick up after your dog when it messes and dispose of it properly, keep them under control and be respectful of other beach users. We also have 65 acres of woodland you can use, and dog friendly beaches to either side of us. Plaidy beach towards Looe is only a 10 minute walk up the South West Coast Path, and Seaton beach which is either a 5/7 minute drive or a 50 minute walk along the South West Coast Path. When the tide is out at Millendreath, you can actually walk all the way along to Seaton beach, and then back along the coast path to get back. The beach to the left of ours is dog friendly but only accessible at low tide. We have onsite toilets and parking, our Beach Bar and Bistro on the Beach allow dogs and we have dog friendly accommodation on site too. Check out our apartments here.
2. Seaton Beach, near Looe
Seaton beach is either a 5/7 minute drive or a 50 minute walk along the South West Coast Path from Millendreath Beach Resort. Seaton is a lovely beach that's dog friendly year round and stretches all the way to Downderry beach at low tide. Seaton Valley Countryside Park is great for dog walking, and there is a cafe and beach shop too. There is parking and toilets here.
3. Mawgan Porth Beach, 55 minute drive from Millendreath
Mawgan Porth is a beautiful, large beach with restaurants and fish and chip shops, and a coffee shop by the large car park. It's near Newquay, so there's plenty of other beaches surrounding it with lots of little coves and villages to explore. Mawgan Porth has plenty of rock pools, caves and a wide stream running down the side of the beach which is great for playing in and having a splash.
4. Fistral Beach Newquay, 1 hour drive from Millendreath
Fistral beach is arguably Cornwall's most popular beach, for surfers, tourists and dog walkers alike. The perfect place to socialise your pet, go for a dip or just chill out and enjoy the view. Fistral beach is in Newquay, which has plenty of eateries and places to grab a drink, as well as ice cream parlours and coffee shops. There are toilets here and a car park, and plenty of parking in town too.
5. Constantine Bay, 1 hour 5 minutes drive from Millendreath
Constantine Bay is a beautiful vast beach that's dog friendly all year. With it's rock pools, sand dunes, and headland walks, it's perfect for a doggy day out. There are places to eat and pubs in the nearby town of St Merryn, and it's only a hop, skip and a jump away from Padstow too. Constantine beach links with the neighbouring beach, Booby's Bay, but only at low tide. Both can be accessed via the coats path. There are toilets and also a surf shop if you're interested in having a go while you're here.
There are so many places you can explore with your four legged friends while you're in Cornwall, all we ask is that you enjoy everywhere safely and pick up after your pooches.
