Fun at Millendreath Beach Resort

Millendreath Beach Resort is the perfect base for exploring Cornwall, and we have our own onsite facilities that will keep you and the kiddies entertained if you don't want to travel too far when you're here. With Looe a stones throw away, it's the perfect place to holiday with the kids. So, what is there to see and do while you're visiting Millendreath? Well, here's 10 things you can do with the kids in Cornwall to make it a holiday to remember...

1.

Millendreath Beach

Yep, that's right. Right on the doorstep of Millendreath Beach Resort is one of the safest bathing beaches around. With beautifully clean and clear waters and a lagoon perfect for little ones to paddle and swim, it's a great place to relax for the day while the kids play. We have some great rock pools on the beach and do a beach studies sheet in Guest Services, so grab one and see what you can tick off when you find them. In the season we have a fantastic water sports team onsite, Sea Explorers UK, who hire paddle boards, kayaks and sea scooters, so if you're feeling a little adventurous, you can take a family paddle out to sea. There's plenty of space on the sand itself and we have large open green areas which are great for outdoor games. And of course there's the age old bucket and spade for hours of castle and moat building fun.

We have our Bistro on the Beach which serves breakfast, lunch, takeaway snacks and dinner (dinner on specific evenings) and also soft drinks, coffees and cakes. We also have the beautiful Beach Bar serving draught Cornish beers, bottled drinks, wine and our famous Cocktails, including our very own Heli Gin Cocktail with £1 for each sold going to Cornwall Air Ambulance.

We are extremely lucky to have both beach and woodland here, so grab a woodland walk sheet from Guest Services and head to the Millendreath Woods to explore.

2.

Looe

Looe is only a 25 minute walk along the coast path from Millendreath and is a firm family favourite as it has so much to offer for such a busy little fishing village. Looe Beach is a lovely, large sandy beach with loads of rock pools for those who love exploring. In the summer there are rides, face painters and hair braiders along the front by the beach itself and there are some great toy and gift shops in town, like the Old Mill Gift Centre. You can take a range of boat rides out from the quay, and even visit Looe Island when it is permitted.

Like ice cream? Looe has plenty, and you must try the bubble waffle cones at the Dog and Waffle, they are incredible! They are unlike any you've had before, are huge, and taste great! They have a great range of flavours and also do amazing milkshakes! On the bridge is a big arcade, perfect for spending those 2p coins and winning prizes to take home as a souvenir! There is a large play park by the Millpool car park, and some pretty woodland walks too. Be careful not to disturb wild life and marine life if you take a walk by the river, but see how many different birds you can spot.

3.

Monkey Sanctuary

Along the coastal path from Millendreath is the Monkey Sanctuary. You can drive there in about 5 minutes or walk the coast path in about 40. The staff here are really helpful and what they don't know about their monkeys isn't worth knowing. They give fascinating talks about each of their residents and you can see the monkeys playing happily in their environments. There's a cafe on site, parking and it makes for a good morning or afternoon out.

Adrenalin Quarry

Not far from Millendreath Beach Resort is Adrenalin Quarry. As the name suggests, it's great for the active and adventurous, and has plenty of outdoor activities to keep you going all afternoon. You can jump off a cliff, throw yourself around the waterpark, or thrash your competitors at karting. It's also a lovely spot for a picnic!

5.

Paignton Zoo

Paignton Zoo, a little further a field, but is great for the little ones and the larger ones (us grown ups) as there are so many animals to see and so much to do. They have an amazing 2,500 animals over 80 acres of zoo, so you can spend a good day here and can even interact with some of the animals too. There's a cafe on site for a bite to eat, but there's also some beautiful spots to sit for a picnic. You will find ice cream kiosks dotted around so don't forget the pocket money.

Not far from the zoo is Paignton itself, which is a thriving little town right on the beach front, and has a wicked play park and often fair rides too. If you're looking for a full day of fun, it's definitely worth a visit.

Flambards

Flambards, located in Helston, is a great family fun day out. It's Cornwall's very own Theme Park and is a hit with the kids. They have thrill rides for the brave, indoor attractions including soft play and a Victorian village, and the Jurassic Journey where you can discover dinosaurs! There is much much more, and it makes for a good day of fun and laughter. In the summer, they have firework spectaculars and often hold events too. If you've got some thrill seekers in the family, Flambards is a must while in Cornwall.

Blue Reef Aquarium

The Blue Reed Aquarium is in the seaside town of Newquay. It's a great place to visit for families, with plenty to see and learn about our marine life. They hold daily events which include feeds and talks where you get to find out all about some of the creatures that live there, including the Giant Pacific Octopus! There's a gift shop and cafe at the aquarium, but there's also plenty of places to eat and get an ice cream (or 2) in Newquay itself. And while you're there, you may as well pay a visit to the famous Fistral Beach, or one of the small coves along the coast line.

Paradise Island Adventure Golf

Across the bridge into Devon once again for this one. Paradise Island Adventure Golf is a brilliant mini golf circuit right in the middle of Plymouth, and is great entertainment for the whole family. They boast two 18 hole adventure golf courses which can keep you going for hours of fun, and if you bag yourself a hole-in-one on their famous 19th hole, you can win another game for free! They have a bar, cafe and a small arcade game area too. It's open until late so if you're looking for something for an evening out, this is perfect.

Don't forget to take a walk along the Hoe or visit the Barbican while you're here too! Plymouth has lots to offer including 2 cinemas, so you could make a day of it while you're there.

Paradise Park & Jungle Barn

Paradise Park is a wildlife sanctuary with a huge indoor play area called the Jungle Barn. They look after around 1,200 animals, most of which you can enjoy close up encounters with. They have some absolutely beautiful birds and each day have a flying show with some of them. If you catch it at the right time you can watch the penguin and otter feeds too! The place is very colourful inside and out with the Paradise Gardens, and the staff are really helpful. It's a great day out for little kids and adults alike.

Eden Project - discounted tickets available from our Guest Services Shop

Mentioned in my previous blog, but such a great place to take the kids. The Eden Project is a famous attraction that brings something different to the table. It's perfect for kiddies or grown ups, and is accessible for all. You can spend hours wandering around the Biomes which are absolutely fascinating, and on a nice day meander through the outside gardens. There is an ice-skating rink (possibly seasonal) and an amazing food hall which serves all kinds of delicious delights. There's even a zip wire which descends across the whole site for the brave among us!

There is obviously a lot more attractions in Cornwall and Devon that are well worth a visit, but these are a select few that would make a great holiday an amazing one. Cornwall and Devon have so much to offer for kids, so don't hesitate to explore everywhere you go. But as I said above, if you don't fancy venturing out too far, Millendreath has so much to offer right on it's doorstep.

Stay safe and we hope to see you all soon!
